Fennel Seeds
Add a complex spiced character to your gins.
Fennel is becoming a more popular gin botanical due to its use in popular contemporary gins around the globe. Similar to star anise fennel contains the compound anethole which is generally perceived as the anise type flavour found star anise or aniseed. This means this more earthy and spiced gin suits styles where earthy tones are apparent and a range of spices are added. Fennel seeds also contain a number of other oils that will contribute a complex flavour to your gins. These range from vegetal notes to a full bodied spice. Fennel is high in potent oils so be sure to use sparingly to avoid the fennel flavour being too intense.
Dosage:
FennelĀ can be quiet overpowering if used in high doses. To add a mild balanced flavour use 0.1 - 0.5 grams per litre. We recommend startling lower and titrating up if the flavour is not pronounced enough.
Storage:
Our fennel seeds areĀ Ā packed into resealable foil bags to eliminate UV damage, ensure they are kept sealed and so you can reseal these bags after opening. We recommend refrigerating after opening and using the within two years of opening. Try to keep these out of a moist environment too.
